This journal club video discusses our recent paper on dynamic shear amplification in reinforced concrete shear walls, published in Engineering Structures.
The paper presents a comprehensive study using high-fidelity layered shell finite element models to investigate dynamic shear amplification factors. Key findings include:
- Amplification factors range from 1.0 to 2.75 depending on wall geometry and axial load
- The normalized position of the resultant lateral force is the best predictor of amplification
- Results provide validation for ACI 318-25 formulations with some scatter
